Sybil Jean Thornton ECU Scholarship Memorial

Sybil Jean Thornton, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, was born in Dunn, NC, on September 29, 1951. She left this world peacefully on October 7, 2024, enveloped in the love of her family. She is now reunited with her beloved parents, David and Ina, her dear sister, Emily, and her beloved dog, Hercules, now an angel in eternal serenity.

Sybil’s legacy is carried forward by her loving children, Chris and Caroline; her grandson, Ethan; Caroline's husband, Jason; Chris and Caroline's father, Tom; and her beloved dog, Ginger. Her spirit also lives on through her niece, Rachel, nephew, Jonathan, and cousins, Cecil and Susan.

Please join us in celebrating Sybil’s vibrant life at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home, 905 Erwin Rd., Dunn, NC, on Sunday, October 13, 2024. Visiting begins at 1 p.m., with services immediately following. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and honor the profound impact she left on those who knew her.

Sybil was a brilliant creative force; her passion for drama and playwriting was ignited at East Carolina University. Her work was a beacon of inspiration, profoundly influencing all who crossed her path. Sybil's love of theater defined her professional life and demonstrated her commitment to nurturing young talent.

To honor Sybil’s dedication to the arts, a GoFundMe has been set up, with all contributions going towards a scholarship fund at the ECU School of Theater and Dance. This fund aims to support aspiring theater students, ensuring that her passion for fostering creativity continues to inspire generations to come.
