Our Cause:
Our brother Stephen M. Curley (age 55 years) from Jeffersonton, VA formerly of Hudson, MA was diagnosed five years ago with extra skeletal osteosarcoma which is a very rare form of bone cancer characterized by a fast growing high-grade, chemo-resistant tumor in a limb (in Steve’s case his thigh) which can metastasize to the lungs. After receiving very positive news on the initial surgery to remove the tumor in his thigh and approximately 1 year cancer free, the cancer did metastasize to his lungs. That unfortunate diagnosis has resulted in countless surgeries, rounds of chemotherapy and radiation therapy along with many trips to Massachusetts General Hospital, at this point too many to count. Mass General is one of the few hospitals in the country that could actually deal with and treat this type of cancer, which is a god send since his family could help him while here for treatment. However, the impact of traveling back and forth from Virginia to Massachusetts over the past 5 years has taken a heavy toll both mentally and financially.
Stephen has continued to work tirelessly at his own title/closing business to support his loving wife Barbara and ten wonderful children (ages ranging from 8 to 23 years old). Our brother is one of the hardest working individual’s you would ever meet and he still finds the strength to make it into his office one day a week despite how this disease and the treatments have significantly impacted his strength and ability to function.
Stephen is strong in his Catholic faith (which has kept him positive), his Church along with others in his local community have been supporting the family in many different ways for years now. Stephen’s family, however, is up in Massachusetts and his wife Barbara’s family is in New Jersey which makes it extremely difficult to help out as family members.
Stephen’s prognosis is less than we would wish for and his family’s future is uncertain. Please imagine for a moment that you were in this unfortunate situation, while trying to hold yourself, your family and business together. This is why we have decided to setup this page in order to offset the deep financial impact this situation has had on Steve and his family.
Stephen’s three brothers are making this plea and any monies received will go to directly to helping Steve continue to travel for treatment, keep the family intact in their Virginia home as well as cover other debts related to this situation. Any donations, large or small will have a positive impact and will be greatly appreciated.
We will continue to post updates on this page regarding Steve’s progress, please keep him and his family in your prayers
God Bless
