Earthquake Relief Fund for Nepal

Donation protected

Dear world of people I know,

Gofundme told me to make this section super enticing in order to get you to donate to this cause, but I am going to do nothing of the sort because a) this isn't just any charity case and b) an enticing description involves pictures, and I do not enjoy looking at pictures of my country crumbling to the ground.

There's a lot in the news about what's happened but basically, because of the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on the 25th of April, what we once called home is now a country of broken roads and fallen monuments. There have been over a 1,000 reported deaths, but they have yet to find many of the bodies, so the number is a heavy underestimate. The aftershocks (27 and counting, according to USGS) are still ongoing, and most people in Kathmandu have resorted to sleeping in tents and makeshift bedding in open areas out of fear of the harsh tremors.

But the reason why this isn't just any charity case is because I am not here to tell you to donate to my page. I am here to tell you that honestly, I believe that the smartest thing to do is to donate to sites such as Global Giving (https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/nepal-earthquake-relief-fund/donate/) or Save the Children  (http://www.savethechildren.org/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=8rKLIXMGIpI4E&b=9241341&ct=14615143) or Oxfam (https://secure2.oxfamamerica.org/page/content/nepal_earthquake). It is heartwarming to see how fast the world has come to our aid, and these organizations, among many others, are established, well credited, and will put your donation funds where its needed.

However, I know that often with organizations and crowdfunding projects so large, there arise two problems. The first is that people often feel as though their donation means nothing, because it is a dollar among millions. The second is that people are never sure of where their money really goes; there is no real way of tracing your donation. So then comes the objective of this gofundme page. All I want is to help my home become the home I know again, and in order to do that, I need your help. I created this page as an alternative to the many established donation sites for people who are more comfortable knowing and having a say in where their money goes, so here's how it will work-

If you wish to donate to any of the links above or any other links for that matter, please feel free to do so. Help is help no matter what. If you wish to donate to this page instead, do know that I will keep you noted throughout the entire relief process. I will be home from May 18th till the start of August, and will find what I believe to be the best options for spending the money that I am able to raise on this page. I will relay these options to you, and use the general consensus to decide on where exactly the money will go. This page will hence be limited to the people I know, which may mean that I won't be able to raise as much, but it will ensure that I am able to communicate freely with all donors.

Whether you donate a dollar or a hundred dollars, your thoughtfulness means the world to me, and I hope that with your help, I can do more than just sit here and refresh the news sites with my fingers crossed.
