Support Ashley's Recovery After Life Altering Stroke

Donation protected
My name is Pamela Jenkins, as some of you know, my daughter Ashley suffered a massive stroke two months ago. She also suffered multiple blood clots along with fluid in the brain. Ashley was unresponsive for the first week and her team of doctors did not have high hopes for her pulling through.

She eventually woke and needed a feeding tube and ventilator as she wasn’t able to breathe on her own. Once she was semi responsive, doctors realized that Ashley was now paralyzed on her right side. She remained in the hospital intensive care unit for 6 weeks and slowly began to show signs of recovery. She was moved to the rehabilitation side of the hospital once physicians felt they’d done all they could do in the intensive care unit.

Ashley spent another few weeks in the Plano rehab/therapy unit showing minimal progress. After so long her insurance would no longer cover the onsite therapy and Ashley was sent home. She is experiencing memory loss, still unable to walk, bedridden, and only able to say a few words.

Ashley was moved home with me as I would never want to send my child to a nursing home. However, the expenses that come with providing full time care for her are becoming overwhelming as I am disabled myself and live alone on a fixed income. She also has a 6 year old daughter who was with her aunt for the past two months while I stayed at the hospital with Ashley each night. Her daughter is now back home with us since she has to start school soon. That means she is now under my care full time.

Any funds would be used to help cover medical expenses for Ashley including traveling to her neurologist, and speech therapy (which are both not in town). She also sees a physical therapist as well as an occupational therapist. I will use the bulk of the funds for equipment that’s necessary for Ashley to get in and out of bed and also to assist her with getting into the vehicle for appointments. Medical supplies needed including large size walker, XL disposable wash cloths, bed sheets, moisture barrier paste, pain cream, under bed pads, gloves, adult depends, and so many other items that her insurance will not cover. This will also help me to be able to care for her daughter full time as well.

Since home health is not provided by her insurance, this is a very difficult situation for me as I’m unable to leave Ashley at home alone. I currently have a friend or relative come by to sit with her while I run errands, however I will soon need a caregiver to come look after her while I do these things.

Anything will be appreciated whether you want to give a donation, send supplies, or even provide/recommend a caretaker to come and sit with her while I run my necessary errands/appointments.

Ashley’s life has obviously been turned upside down, but we’re doing all that we can to make sure she stays positive and continues to fight for her daughter. Your support will help to make this possible. If you cannot donate a share of the page to social media will make a difference too.
