Hope for Gabe: A Husband, Father, Pastor, and Friend

If you know Gabe Bales, you know his smile, his laugh, and the way he makes you feel like family from the moment you meet him. He has spent his life pouring into others—whether building homes with his own hands or building up hearts with God’s Word. Gabe has never met a stranger, only friends he hasn’t gotten to know yet.

Now, this man who has given so much of himself to others is facing the fight of his life. This summer, Gabe was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer (adenocarcinoma). The cancer has spread to his abdomen and into the lymph nodes in his chest.

In July 2022, Gabe and his wife, Cherina, stepped out in faith to plant a new church in Prineville, Oregon called The Gathering. With their simple, scripture-by-scripture approach, they created a safe place for people who had given up on church to encounter Jesus again. Today, more than 300 people gather every Sunday—a testimony to how deeply Gabe’s ministry and friendship have touched lives.

Gabe has invested in hundreds, even thousands, of lives on a level that can never be repaid with money. But right now, he and Cherina need us. Time away from work, medical treatments, travel, and related expenses are starting to add up, on top of the emotional and physical battle they are already facing.

This is our chance to give back. To remind Gabe and Cherina that they are not alone. To surround them with love, prayer, and financial support so they can focus on what matters most: faith, healing, and time together.
