Our sweet friends Laura and Frankie Fisher welcomed their second daughter, Abby, on September 8th. Shortly after she was born the nursing staff noticed she could not maintain her oxygen levels. This did not improve after several hours so she was transferred to Roanoke Memorial. There it was discovered she had a congenital heart defect called "transposition of the great arteries" which means the arteries leaving her heart were switched so unoxygenated blood was recirculating through her body instead of going to the lungs. From there she was transferred to UVA. The doctors at UVA found she also had a hole in her heart and open heart surgery was planned. She had surgery on September 15th at just a week old. Since surgery she has been doing well and making slow progress but has a long road ahead for for recovery. She remains in the Pediatric ICU at UVA.
The Fisher's were reluctent to allow us to post this for them but have been so humbled by everyone's support so far. We felt this was a great way to continue to support them through their journey to bring Abby home when she is ready. If you are unable to donate please continue to send your well wishes and prayers.
