You know how we all get up and go to our jobs and make money and kiss our kids and pay our bills and make dinner and go to grocery and complain about traffic and taxes and laundry? Well, sometimes life makes you long for that monotony and daily grind. Unfortunately, my cousin, Brittany, has had her life flipped upside down by something most of us cannot imagine. Her baby, Adlynn, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last year. She has endured dangerous surgeries to remove as much of the tumor as they could safely get. She has six intensive rounds of chemo to undergo and is on the fifth one. The doctors have concerns that with such an aggressive cancer and chemo and the location on the brain, she may not be the same child they knew before.
Brittany has had to quit her job to stay with her sweet girl at the hospital as she fights for her life. Addie has only been home a handful of days since her diagnosis as the treatments make her so sick and her immune system so compromised, it would be too risky to let her leave the hospital. Brittany and her husband take turns staying at the hospital with Addie, while the other is home with their other little one, Cole. They barely see each other. Addie spent her second birthday at home during one of her brief releases and then it was back to the hospital. The day in and day out of hospital life is physically and mentally exhausting. They are taking life one day at a time. One test, one treatment, one consultation at a time. Trying not to zoom out. Trying not to see the big picture of what their life is right now because the overwhelming magnitude of it would make normal functioning impossible. They smile and play with Addie and try to make her life seem as normal as they can in their hospital home.
Words of comfort and prayers are great and maybe they even do comfort them throughout this nightmare, but we all know how stressful finances can be in normal life, much less when facing a life-altering, earth-shaking situation for which no one can ever prepare. They would never ask for help with money. So, I am. I'm asking you to help. If you can spare any money, if you have money you would give to another charity, please consider helping out my sweet cousin and her precious Addie. Anything helps. If we all give something, maybe we can ease a little stress off this family during the hardest time of their lives. Let's show them how much love and support is actually behind them. Never give up the fight, Addie. We're all here for you!
