In June of 2018 I finished highschool in Almaty, Kazakhstan where my parents have been serving as missionaries for twelve years. For this upcoming year I wanted to take some time away from school to pray and decide what I would study in university. That's when a close friend of mine whose family was serving with YWAM (Youth with a Mission) told me about the wonderful programs that are running all over the world called DTS or Discipleship Training School.
These YWAM schools push students to grow in their faith as they serve in a variety of ministries, spiritually sharpen one another as students share and bond together, and to help give a Christ-like view of the world by giving love to others as He first gave us. The program starts with a Lecture Phase this one lasting for 3 months. Followed by the Outreach Phase lasting almost 3 and a half months in a different location each year but being in places like Indonesia, South Africa, and Australia! I felt drawn towards this especially after I was told that some of these schools had snowbording as the theme of the Lecture Phase. Seeing that I had already grown up next to the Tien Shan Mountains as a kid in Almaty, I was used to taking my board to the mountain where I could shred some gnar!
During my senior year, I searched online for the DTS that I would thrive in. It was then that I found and got accepted into YWAM Davos, a DTS in a small Swiss city. Although the city, Davos is quite small it holds a significance to its area. Hosting the World Economic Forum, or WEF where the world's biggest leaders come together, like Donald Trump, in the Swiss parliament.
The spot is an old former ice cream factory, in-between two mountains, allowing our group to merely walk to the ski hill during our designated free times! School eventually finished, and with money saved from camps I had worked at previously, I took the month of June and part of July to backpack Europe and see some of the places that I had always heard about or seen in pictures, such as the Parthenon in Greece, or the Eiffel Tower in France! My dad came up with the idea of visiting Switzerland so that I would be able to see the DTS that I may end up going to. The photo I have posted on here is me standing in front of the YWAM DTS House! Equipped to hold 14-16 students and the staff & teachers that come with.
I am excited for this opportunity to learn more about Christ, grow as a person, and spend time in the Alps! I am asking for financial support to help me pay for some of the fees involved in this school, the travel involved in the outreach phase, and my plane ticket to and from Switzerland. But like always, prayers are appreciated as I am wanting to hear God’s voice before and throughout my time there; speaking into my life and giving me clarity about what he wants me to do in my future and so on.
