Swimming for NPCF in memory of Emily Neufeld

Tax deductible
Every month the American Cancer Society hosts fundraisers to support cancer research and patient care. The month of May is a “swim” month. I am swimming in honor of Emily Neufeld, whose life was tragically cut short by cancer at the age of 17. All funds raised will go directly to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, with the hope that one day, no family will have to endure the heartbreak that Emily’s loved ones experienced. Every contribution makes a difference in the fight against pediatric cancer. Thank you so much for your support.

A day after school ended in 2016, a group of 34 incoming seniors departed LAX for the annual school trip to visit Poland and Israel. Just a week into the trip, Emily’s back began bothering her, and by nightfall, Emily’s pain had become too much to bear. She was checked into a hospital, and doctors soon learned that Emily was suffering from a very aggressive case of lymphoma. When she was diagnosed, Emily’s family members scrambled to support their daughter. Her parents Adam and Izzi Neufeld flew across the globe to be by her side. On June 11th, her friends and family were informed of the severity of her condition, and she passed peacefully just 15 days later.

Emily touched the lives of so many and had an incredible future ahead of her. To honor her memory, I’m swimming 9 miles- one for each year since her passing-and to recognize the number 9, which she proudly wore in both soccer and volleyball.
