Sponsored Swim 44 miles in 44 week

Donation protected
Hi there!

My name is Fiona and I am going to do a sponsored swim. 44 miles in total. The equivalent of swimming the width of the English channel and back- only in the swimming pool!!  I will complete this in a maximum of 44 weeks.

I am not a swimmer, it took me so long to get my 25 metre badge.  I am now going to attempt approximately 70800 metres.
The hope is to complete a mile a week (approximately 64 lengths,  1600 metres)
This is a major challenge for me!!!

I will kick off the swim on Monday February 24th.

I will share any money raised 50/50 between Autism plus (Hull) and my son's rugby team Skirlaugh U13'S .

Why???

My son has aspergers (high functioning autism) and throughout his journey so far it has been highlighted to me how little people (my self included) really understand about autism. The resources for support are still very limited both for autistic people themselves, but also those who care for them. Austim Plus puts a lot of emphasis on empowerment and person focused support.

More information about Autism Plus Limited: We support adults and young people with autism and complex conditions to make choices and gain more control in their lives. We focus on empowering people, tailoring support around their wishes.

My son has played for Skirlaugh since he was 4. The coaches and the team will probably never understand the huge level of support and value they have added to my sons life. Given him a place where he feels totally accepted, encouraged and wanted. Rugby is the only thing that makes total sense in his life, the glue that holds him together when everything else has become too much for him.

I was once told by couple of separate professionals  that perhaps he should give up rugby as he would struggle too much with the team element. The coaches response to this I will never forget "well, let's help him prove them wrong"  And with all the support both coaches and players have offered, knowingly and unknowingly, he has indeed proved them very wrong indeed.

My son reached some really dark places, some he very nearly did not make it back from, but rugby pulled  him through when absolutely nothing else did.  I will never be able repay then, but I can raise money for them (hopefully)

This event has the full backing of:
Skirlaugh U13's
Autism Plus

And will be fully monitored and verified by Ennerdale Leisure Centre
