My name is Kristen, and I am raising money for my very best friend's daughter. Kristina is one hell of a friend, but an even better mom. Her daughter, Johanna is probaby the sweetest child I've ever met. And being a kindergarten teacher for five years, I've met a lot. This sweet little girl was recently diagnosed with juvenile metochromatic leukodystrophy (MLD). Her rockin' mom has been going through every mom's nightmare. Juvenile MLD causes young children to experience a loss of physical and intellectual function over time. Kristina has been taking Johanna to multiple doctor appointments to get to the bottom of her daughter's new defecits. Finally, relentless as she is they went to The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. There they learned that there is a treatment for Johanna. The only treatment for MLD is a bone marrow transplant. According to the United Leukodystrophy Foundation, this treatment can slow the disease's progress and increase the quality of life for the patient. During this trying time, my amazing, hard working friend has been unable to go back to work, after taking time off to be with her baby (sweet Marley 1 yr). Now her loving husband and father of these two beautiful girls will be taking some time off of work to be with his family for future medical procedures. This week, the family is traveling to Pittsburgh for more testing. When a bone marrow match is found, the family will return to Pittsburgh for 3-5 months to complete the transplant. Without financial support, I don't know what they will do. The smallest donation will help! God bless!
