HELP SWEETIE FIGHT FOR HIS LIFE
A story of love, a relentless fight, and the gentlest soul who just wants to stay.
⸻
Hey there, I’m BayLeigh — a full-time caregiver, homemaker, and lifelong animal lover. Sweetie came into our lives like a quiet question. We don’t know where he came from, but he was emaciated and clearly had been through something. Still, he showed up with nothing but gentleness and trust.
I called him Sweetie from the start — because he truly was. He became part of us, like he’d always belonged. He healed once — slowly, bravely — and in doing so, he helped heal parts of me too. He locks eyes with me and just knows, curling close without question — no judgment, only love.
If you’ve ever had that once-in-a-lifetime animal — the kind who feels like a living piece of your heart, who chooses you again and again — then you understand. You know what he means to me. You fight for them like you’d fight for family.
⸻
Sweetie is our beloved vocal gray tuxedo cat (always dressed to the nines!), with a Roman nose, the longest firework whiskies, white mitten paws with black beans, a marshmallow tail tip, and a heart so pure he practically radiates love.
And those eyes… oh, his eyes. Glacier green, glowing like emeralds — they look right through you with tenderness and trust. His coat has a delicate, shimmery luster — like moonlight on velvet — as if lit from within, and it’s as silky as baby bunny fluff.
Just a touch to his wittle ears and he melts — turning into cozy, purring mush, like he’s whispering a secret lullaby just for you. He arches his elevator booty and lifts onto his tippy toes when you scratch down his back — happily swishing the tip of his tail side to side.
And when he stretches like a yogi, sometimes his tiny pink tongue sneaks out. He runs to you when called and talks back to you. His meow is unmistakable — a soft, forlorn call, like he’s checking to make sure you’re still close. It’s the kind of voice that stays with you.
Sweetie’s inquisitive by nature — he makes this little sound that’s somewhere between a chirp, a trill, and a grunt, gently begging you for recognition and affection with his quiet charm.
He’s never met a stranger. Everyone he meets falls head over heels.
He’s empathetic.
He’s unique.
He’s magic.
And now… he’s fighting for his life.
⸻
How It All Began
It all started in January 2025 — a small lump under his chin, toward the side of his neck. It grew quickly and unpredictably… then burst.
A vicious cycle began.
Infection after infection.
Each time more painful.
Each time harder to look at.
And still… through it all, Sweetie stayed Sweetie. He prodded us for attention. He nestled on our laps. He softly purred. He looked us in the eye like, “I’m okay. I’ve got this.”
But we knew — deep down — he wasn’t okay. It became heartbreakingly clear as our near 15-pound boy dwindled to just 10 in a matter of months.
⸻
A Rare, Devastating Infection
After months of searching for answers and seeing 7 different vets, we finally had a diagnosis: Rhodococcus equi — a rare, aggressive soil-based bacteria usually found in horses, almost never in cats. It likely entered through a scratch and hid in his immune cells, tunneling deep around his neck and jaw — dangerously close to vital structures.
One vet with 20+ years of experience said it was one of the five worst infections he’d ever seen.
Another called it a “once-in-a-lifetime” case — something she’d only seen once in school at the vet hospital.
This infection is rare.
It’s relentless.
It’s resistant.
And it’s trying to take our Sweetie pie.
⸻
What Sweetie Is Enduring Every Day
Sweetie has already undergone major surgery to remove a Stage IV abscess with deep fistulas.
We hoped it would be the end of his suffering.
It wasn’t.
The infection returned — stronger, more entrenched, and harder to fight.
Now every single day is a fight:
•Additional testing
• Injections
• Pain medication
• Heavy-duty antibiotics
• Wound flushes
• Re-bandaging
And still… He meows. He purrs. He lifts his head. He finds us and nudges us with what strength he has left.
Sweetie is still choosing love.
Still choosing life.
Finding comfort in our presence.
The infection, however, is vicious and resistant to standard treatments.
⸻
What He Needs Now — & Why We’re Scared
Sweetie urgently needs to see a veterinary dermatologist — someone trained in rare, drug-resistant infections.
He’s been referred to a specialist at the University of Georgia Veterinary Hospital… but the earliest appointment is far away, and we are concerned with the continual battle of trying to keep the infection at bay.
We’re preparing for an emergency visit — but it comes at a cost we can’t manage alone.
⸻
Why We’re Asking for Help
We’ve already spent a significant amount doing everything we can to save Sweetie:
• Major surgery
• Imaging, cultures, diagnostics
• Near-daily wound care
• Antibiotics, fluids, pain meds
• Medical supplies + special food
We’ve canceled trips.
Given away show tickets.
Put everything on hold.
We’ve done all we can… and we’d do it all again in a heartbeat.
Sweetie has always shown up for me.
Now… I’m showing up for him. With everything I have.
⸻
Our Goal: $10,000 (and likely more)
Your donation will help cover:
• Emergency and specialist vet visits
• Advanced imaging, lab work, and testing
• Continued medications, injections, and care
• Hospital stays, wound care, and possible additional surgery
• Follow-up visits, supplies, and travel expenses
Every penny will go directly toward saving Sweetie’s life.

Sweetie’s Life Matters
Sweetie is only 4–5 years old. He is not ready to go.
However, we’ve made a promise to Sweetie: we will never let him suffer. We stay in close contact with his vets and watch for what matters most — not just physical healing, but his spirit.
And he’s still so full of life.
He eats with gusto, plays when he can, and greets us with chirps and gentle headbutts. He scratches his post with furious determination, like he’s proving he’s still got fight in him. He still climbs into my lap like he did the day he came home hurt — when he looked me in the eyes, maowed at the door, and trusted me to help him.
He still seeks out sunbeams on the rug. Still chirps at birds from the window. Still purrs when we hold him.
He’s still choosing us. Still fighting. Still loving.
That’s how we know it’s right to keep fighting with him — for as long as he tells us he’s okay.
⸻
Why Sweetie Deserves to Stay
Still choosing us — even when he’s hurting.
Sweetie is my soul companion.
My gentle shadow. My peace. He definitely earned his name.
Sweetie is more than just a pet — he’s the steady presence through every chapter of my life.
Not just when things fall apart, but in the joy, the quiet, the chaos, and the calm.
The warmth on our chest when the world feels cold.
He is our home.
Everyone at the vet office lights up when they see his name on the schedule — they’re invested in his care and always wish him well.
One vet called him “the perfect patient: wiggly, happy, loving.”
But to us?
He’s our everything.
He’s always been a source of comfort and joy. I don’t remember life without him.
I love all my pets, but Sweetie is my baby.
With endless love and gratitude, Sweetie & The Pritchett Family

TL;DR — Help Sweetie Fight a Rare, Aggressive Infection
Sweetie is our gray tuxedo cat with the gentlest soul — affectionate, quirky, magic.
He’s fighting a rare, drug-resistant infection (Rhodococcus equi) that’s destroying tissue around his neck and jaw. Despite major surgery and constant care, the infection keeps returning.
Now he urgently needs a veterinary dermatologist — but the earliest appointment is far away, and we are concerned with the continual battle of trying to keep the infection at bay.
He still purrs. He still loves. He still chooses us — every day.
But we can’t keep fighting this alone anymore.
Please help us give Sweetie the care he needs to survive.
Every share, prayer, and donation truly matters.
Any unused funds will help other animals in crisis through donation or go toward Sweetie’s long-term care.
