Sweet Scarlett’s medical expenses

Many of you might not know but 5 yr old, Sweet Spunky Scarlett is being hospitalized for complications from Covid and a terrible leg infection.

Last Wednesday Scarlett started to complain of a leg pain. Friday her pain worsened and her fever started getting worse, started shivering and Carmilyn took her to the ER. The doctors didn’t diagnose her leg with anything but incidentally found out she was positive for Covid. So they were sent home.. Saturday, Sunday the pain and fever just kept progressing. Monday Carmilyn tried to get her an appointment for an orthopedic doctor get her right leg checked. Unfortunately the orthopedic office said they couldn’t take her for another 2 days. They decided to go back to the ER. This time they did blood work, x-ray and sonogram of the hips and did not find anything about the leg but bloodwork found that her ESR is high and shows that she’s got an infection and sepsis. She had staph infection, Covid, and osteomyelitis. After the MRI of the leg they found an abscess on her Tibia. Her thigh muscles on her legs were so inflamed that the orthopedic doctor wanted to take her to surgery to do an incision on the area where the abscess is, drain it, and he made an incision on her thighs to check if the muscles are also infected which it was not. She also had water build up in her lungs which may have been caused by Covid or the infection. They left her intubated on the ventilator (breathing machine) giving support to her lungs. She was on the ventilator for three days until they were able to wean off the sedatives and transition her to high flow oxygen. Scarlett is still in the hospital for antibiotics and treatment for the Covid infection. She will start physical therapy soon to help get her out of bed and start mobilizing the legs after the surgery. The long term plan will be to send her home with Intravenous Antibiotics for the infection and a nurse to help at home with the wound care.
