Usually businesses are created in a well established and thought out process however, neither of those fit my personality. Sweet resilience was created off of a deep rooted dream but mainly an impulsive idea on a long drive home. Hi, I'm Alex, a student paramedic - that probably says enough! At the beginning of my second year studying (2024), whilst telling myself I would focus on my degree...I met Joe. All was amazing until life decided to do that thing and challenge; I like to call it character building! Joe was diagnosed with Genetic Pancreatitis with SPINK1 gene mutation. In short, this means many hospital appointments and major surgery to have his pancreas removed. Unfortunately, It doesn't just stop there, Joe has a twin brother and a four year old nephew going through the exact same thing. This hasn't been the easiest time in life but that's not to say something good cannot come from it - hence Sweet Resilience. The heart and hope behind sweet resilience is to bring joy to others through baking and to raise awareness about Genetic Pancreatitis and SPINK1. There is a massive lack of awareness and a stigma around pancreatitis only being alcohol related, thus creating awareness to destroy this stigma. All whilst I get to live out my bakery dream.
Sweet Resilience is more than a bakery—it's a mission. Every sweet treat is lovingly baked to raise funds for the hospital trips, accommodation, and recovery support needed for the journey ahead including upcoming surgeries and the 12-week hospital stay (minimum) that follows.
Your donations help ease the financial and emotional weight of this journey. An average trip to Kings Hospital costs between £100-£200 so even the smallest donation means the world! Thank you for the love already shown making this journey a little easier.
