If you are a parent, I want you to ask yourself; Have you budgeted for a life threatening illness for your children? How would you balance mental health with physical wellness for all the children in the home when things like this happen? Do you even know what that means without actually being in this position? Unfortunately, my friends do.
Mia is 9 years old, and by all accounts she was a healthy child; who enjoyed dancing, gymnastics, soccer, learning karate, and playing with her friends and brother Gianni. Until one day her mom, Jodi, noted Mia was not looking well. After several doctors' appointments and a handful of misdiagnoses it was finally determined that Mia had a rare autoimmune disease called Wegeners. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/granulomatosis-with-polyangiitis/home/ovc-20167226 As a result Mia is in end stage renal failure and is beginning the process of a kidney transplant, while on dialysis.
Between co-pays, travel, medical tests, and everything that goes into reversing end stage renal failure and working towards remission of Wegener's, the family is starting to feel the financial strain. The Guida family are small business owners, so a day off is for them is very different then a day off for many of us.
I am reaching out to you, help me keep the Guida family as normal as possible during this process by eliminating their stress over funds.
The Guida family will also be making a donation to the Kidney Foundation from part of the funds raised.
Thank you all for taking the time to read about Mia and her Family.
