Hi, my name is Lauren Sartin. In January, my friends mom, Becky, saved a puppy she had been trying to rescue for 3 weeks from a ditch in east Texas. Upon adopting her, my 2yr old rescue Belle, and Hunney were instantly bonded. After getting her de wormed, rid of flees, and getting her vaccinated, she still seemed to be sick. Months passed filled with many vet visits, meds, change of diet and finally an abdominal ultrasound diagnosing Hun with an extrahepatic shunt, which causes her liver to not be able to filter blood to the rest of her body/organs. This causes her to excessively drink water, have nausea, bladder stones, and some of her organs are now abnormally sized. Hunney has to have major surgery costing around $5,000 - $7,000 for her to live. Without the surgery, in 6 months, Hunney’s organs will start failing.
