Sweet Fig Needs Eye Surgery to Thrive
Donation protected
Fig Jam, or Fig the Pig, is going under the knife to correct two genetic issues.
One that only affects 1% of male cats. His “beans” are not in his “bean bag,” simple neutering has to be done like a spay because they need to enter his abdomen. This is a much more risky and invasive surgery.
The other more obvious one:
he was born without his top inner eyelid, and his whole litter, likely due to the genetic disorder (entropion), had eye infections straight out of the womb.
He had his eyelids prematurely opened to apply the meds to save his vision. His eyelids don’t match up and have rolled in, sitting on his unprotected eye.
He needs corrections to his outer eyelid so the eyelashes no longer rub on his eye as well as delicate reconstructive surgery on his inner eyelid. If uncorrected, it will lead to infections and more sight issues.
Everyone at the Tremont Animal Clinic, from doctors to techs, have told me how sweet he is and how they can’t wait to see him when he comes in for his check-ups.
The amazing Dr. Bob at the Tremont Animal Clinic wants to help him and has offered me a great discount to do the specialized surgery here in Cleveland as a teaching opportunity for the younger doctors at his clinic. This will make it more possible for people in the future to afford it without the added expense of going to Akron, where the closest eye specialist is.
I am confident if he wasn’t so sweet, we would not have been offered this wonderful opportunity to get both of these issues corrected the same time, saving him from going under anesthesia multiple times.
If anyone has met him, even at 9 months old, Fig is such a sweet boy. He is getting so big but is very gentle. He often plays by himself and sings at night during the zoomies.
He loves to be loved and snuggled and likes to go on walks outdoors on a leash with his TiTi, Olive, my other cat. When they are on walks, she guides him. I can tell he has a hard time with things close up, and I believe he has bad night vision.
We are fundraising to cover the cost of Fig's specialized surgery.
Fig, my sweet little baby boy, needs this surgery to correct his genetic issues and improve his quality of life.
