At only a few weeks old, Bene was abandoned, covered in ringworm. Love Leo Rescue saved and provided him with medical treatment, then placed him in a loving foster home. Soon a neurologist discovered a cyst in Bene’s spinal column. Love Leo raised the money for Bene’s spinal surgery, and we (Golden Years Animal Sanctuary, tax ID 90-1249331) fostered him as he recovered. Needless to say, we became “foster failures,” and Bene became part of our animal family! Once recovered, we noticed he favored his right front leg. Our orthopedic surgeon found Bene has Elbow Dysplasia. To add to his problems, Bene has Pica which causes him to ingest foreign objects. On 10/12, he became very sick, his surgeon found objects stuck between his stomach and intestines, and emergency surgery on 10/14 was performed. Once home, Bene became violently ill, and after yet another trip to emergency, they found he had Postoperative Ileus, which caused his GI tract to shut down. From 10/15 to 10/17, Bene was hospitalized to “jump-start” his GI tract. Bene is finally home, on lots of meds, a special diet and receiving tons of love. We have never asked for anything in our 35 years of rescuing and providing sanctuary to animals in need, but we are now having to reach out. Bene’s recent exams, surgery and follow-up hospitalization total $10,914.85. It’s difficult to ask, but if you can, we would greatly appreciate your donation to help with his recent bills.
