Sweet Bella Warrior 2.0

Bella Hollis is a 16-year-old superhero/cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with an HGNET B-COR mutation in 2018, at 13 years old, which is a rare form of brain and spinal cord cancer.

After the initial biopsy and diagnosis, Bella had to undergo emergency brain surgery as one of the tumors had grown and caused a blockage.

In addition to brain surgeries, she underwent an intense 7-week treatment of radiation and chemotherapy treatment at PCPT in Knoxville. Bella returned home to Nashville for a 6 week recovery period following those treatments. Shortly after, she began a further 6 months of chemotherapy.

Needless to say, this was just the beginning of a long and arduous journey for Bella and her family. For 7 months, her parents alternated care for Bella and were unable to work full-time, which put a considerable strain on family finances, not to mention the astronomical medical bills associated with this type of treatment and recovery. However, this was made more manageable with the help of others. The generosity from people worldwide, to close-by Neighbours, made life possible through donations, cooking, and childminding.

Amazingly, she was able to fight off the cancer and officially went into remission in July 2020.

She underwent quarterly MRI scans, which all came back clean until her most recent scan. Unfortunately, this showed a recurrence of tumors in her brain. Bella has undergone brain surgery to remove a 9mm tumor from the back of her brain and will now be undergoing 48-weeks of in-patient/out-patient chemotherapy to kill any remaining cells.

During this time, she will face trials and sickness, which will impact her schooling and ability to work full-time, not to mention the repeat financial pressure overall.

Bella is one of the strongest and sweetest young ladies - we are all praying that she will once again reach remission and be a two-time cancer survivor.
