Swedish Dockworkers Union legal fees and strike

Support the Dockworkers´ Conflict Fund

Billion-dollar corporations should not be able to buy their way out of Swedish law.

The Swedish Dockworkers' Union and its members have recently been forced into several extensive legal proceedings against multinational port operators within the employer organization Ports of Sweden.

Among other things, the union is now legally contesting the well-known attack on the union's vice chairman Erik Helgeson, who was given notice of dismissal by his employer DFDS on the same day that the Labor Court announced that the union's blockade of military trade with Israel, for which he was the spokesperson, was allowed under Swedish law.

At the same time, the nationwide collective bargaining agreement and the peace obligation between the Dockworkers' Union and Ports of Sweden have expired. The Dockworkers' Union has therefore given notice of industrial action starting on May 21.

Among other things, we demand that temporary workers be guaranteed the right to proper leisure time and that compensation levels be greatly increased for employers who do not comply with Swedish law and ignore their commitments regarding negotiations and risk assessments.

In addition, the price tag must be pushed up for large companies that want to circumvent the law by dismissing elected union representatives on false grounds, and then buying them out after the Labor Court has declared the dismissal invalid.

Legal proceedings are expensive and it is expensive to take action against multinational billion-dollar corporations. If you want to support the Dockworkers' Union, a collection for the conflict fund is now being started.
