Aloha family and friends.. You may all know that my daughter Makanani Kahauolupea Lehua Kanana-Elliot, has been fighting to stop her seizures.. What started as a common cold turned for the worse as she started having seizures.. Maka was on vacation with my parents and my 2 year old daughter Maeleianna, on Maui.. At the time they were in Hana, Maui when they first realized she was having seizures.. New Years Eve night she would have staring episodes where shes not responding, my mom had to rush her to the Hana Clinic.. Shortly after she was in a ambulance heading to Maui Memorial Hospital.. They arrived to Maui Memorial Hospital around 2am New Years Day.. Getting a phone call that my baby was having seizures broke my heart.. Something she has never had for 9 years of her life.. She continues to have seizures while at Maui Memorial Hospital.. Later that night she was picked up to be medivac back home to Oahu.. I met her at Kapiolani Hospital at 9pm New Years Day.. She was not responding to me.. In the hallway of the PICU I witnessed her seizures and she immediately stopped breathing.. Rushing her into a room to get a breathing tube down her throat, they also started sedation drugs Ketamine and Petntobarbital.. The next day an Infectious/Disease doctor visits her and diagnoses her with Encyphilitis which is the pressure and inflammation of the brain along with Meningitis the infection.. She has done countless tests, MRI's, and Lumber Punctures and everything has turned up negative.. Doctors can't find why shes having seizures and what's causing her to have seizures.. The doctors had to get her off the sedation drugs that was keeping her asleep and keeping her brain calm because after being on these drugs for 3 months her body was starting to get immune to the drugs and that would make it harder for her to wean off the medicines.. In order to get her off the 2 sedation medicines she had to do a research drug called Sage-547.. The research drug was a success but Maka continues to have seizures.. Her MRI's are showing brain damage from the high amount of seizures she's been having.. But I'm still hopeful knowing my baby girl will pull through.. The reason I'm asking you all for help is because today Maka has been accepted to UCLA and they believe they have other alternatives they would like to try on her to help control or even stop her seizures.. She has been rejected from countless hospitals in the mainland.. UCLA is the only hospital that is willing to help my baby.. Maka has such a rare case of Super-Refractory-Status-Epilepticus that most doctors in all of the years during there practice had never seen a case like this.. Because I'm a stay at home mommy of 3 I'm asking you all to please help me raise money so that I am able to be with my baby girl in California..
