Meet our parents - Cliff & Judy Habig and the Town of Georgetown CA. A beautiful town nestled in the Sierra Foothills in between Auburn and Placerville.
Our parents moved to Georgetown from Antioch Ca 20 years ago after falling in love with an amazing 2 story log cabin home on Volcanoville Rd. There they built up their home and the property to be a breathtaking beauty that became the hosting house for the parties for the Georgetown community.
The annual HABIG THING - every October was the event you do not miss. All of Georgetown, and Volcanoville were invited and showed up, along with us kids, our families and friends.
Their house was our generational home where we gathered with our kids, our kids kids, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins...etc... it was our family HOME.
Thursday afternoon September 8. After 1-1/2 days of the Mosquito Fire burning towards Foresthill - it changed course. Within just a couple of hours, it jumped the river and engulfed Volcanoville. With a wall of heat and pressure traveling in front of the fire, their home didn't stand a chance. It self-combusted and incinerated.
80 years of life they built separately and together, along with heirlooms from both of their parents - gone.
Yes, they have insurance, but with today's costs, it is less than half of what is needed to rebuild.
With pride aside - we are asking for help. Whatever you can spare, every dollar will help them get on their feet and start again with all the necessities they need. They will be in a temporary rental for the next few years until things get sorted out. If you prefer to send via venmo or paypal, IM me on fb and I will send you a private link.
Please share this request.
We thank you deeply and sincerely for helping our parents in this unbelievable situation.
Sincerely, Tonya Tuttle Hastings
