Swap & Buy

With a view to start a new fashion business, I created a crowdfunding appeal to launch my project: Swap & Buy. It contributes towards the development of sustainability in the fashion industry, based on circular economy principles.

The goal is to reduce production and support sustainable brands and designers by coming up with a new retail concept which gathers the following in just one place:

- secondhand (curated based on fabrics quality and/or style)
- Up-cycling (new clothes made from secondhand clothes)
- New clothes from past collections (designers & luxury brands)
- New clothes from current collections (certified sustainable brands only)*

Fashion is something I am passionate about, particularly its fast pace of change, and its constant ability to yield something new while capturing the zeitgeist. My in-depth understanding is based on academic studies and professional experience for high-profile magazines and luxury retail. Learn more about me.

Most sustainable brands are not so appealing in terms of style. Each piece for Swap & Buy would be selected based on the fabrics quality and the focus would be a timeless elegant style, think Tom Ford for Gucci, wearable but definitely fashion!

Who will benefit:
Women who love fashion but don't want to engage with fast fashion brands and their negative repercussions. Nothing new is purposefully produced for Swap & Buy. The purpose is to protect the environment and avoid the abuse of those producing cheap clothes abroad.

Funds:
This fundraising would only cover the costs of a limited trial period of up to one month, to test how people respond to this new retail concept. It includes renting a pop-up shop in a premium location in London, and all the logistics associated with it, from merchandise to staff, security, transportation, bank fees...

All secondhand clothes would be dry cleaned, repaired or could be subjected to up-cycling, which means deconstructing them and using the fabrics to create new clothes.

When:
The plan is to do it right now. This is an area predicted to develop more and more in the future by renowned companies such as WGSN and McKinsey. This is the moment to mature the idea and developing a business plan to make it happen in the near future.

Meaning and gratitude:
Your support means the world! I would be able to do something fulfilling while making the world a better place, and would definitely seek multiple collaborations, favouring students and recent graduates to work on creative projects such as videos and fashion editorials to promote the business, through the-dots  platform.
