Swaney Family Needs Your Support
Donation protected
Jessica Swaney has been a 911 Dispatcher since August of 1996. Over the years, she has helped countless people in their time of need, and now she desperately needs our help.
On her way home after a graveyard shift on May 4, 2025, she was struck head on by a reported drunk driver in a Mustang, and she had to be transported to the local Trauma Center. Luckily, several nurses on their way into shift at the same local Trauma Center witnessed the accident and stopped to assist. At the time of this posting, she will have a long road to recovery.
She suffered a shattered right hip socket, broken right leg, possible broken left leg, a deep laceration on her right knee down to the knee joint, and several broken ribs. Jessica was lucky to come out this accident with only these injuries.
At this time, a traction pin has been inserted and hip repair surgery is set to be scheduled within the next 24 hours, if all goes well. Doctors are hoping they can repair the damage in one surgery, but multiple may be necessary. Additional injuries will be re-evaluated once the hip and hip socket are repaired. Physical Therapy will definitely be in her future and will be ongoing.
For those of you that know the Swaney family personally, you know they have had a long and difficult year, medically speaking, especially Jessica and her oldest son Xander. Jessica has only been back to work for about a week following her taking care of Xander and his severe medical scare - including a collapsed lung and multiple organ failure.
Over the past year, Jessica has had to have emergency surgery for retinal detachment of one eye, and the other eye is expected to need the same surgery soon. She has also had to have bariatric surgery to help control her Type 1 diabetes, as well as abdominal surgery.
Her daughter Catherine and Caden, her youngest son, have been trying to hold down the house while working...and for Caden, also finishing high school. Xander is currently without income. Her husband Joe is continuing to work to bring in what income he can to keep them going while being there for his wife and family.
Currently, coworkers are donating their Sick Leave to Jessica in accordance with company policy, and it's awaiting final approval from the Director. Meanwhile, hospital bills and living expenses are continuing to pile up. At this time, we are looking to replace Jessica's monthly income with the expectation that she could be out of work for up to a year. Xander, as well, may not be able to return to work any time soon. Disability, whether short term or long term, will not fully replace her income or Xander's.
Please consider donating. You can donate directly to Jessica, to me thru Venmo or thru GoFundMe. All funds are going directly to the Swaney Family.
