My name is Kylie Malone, I am a born and raised Floridian and film student at Pratt Institute working on my senior thesis film. I will be flying a small crew to my home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida to shoot a dystopian, science fiction short film about the intersections of environmental damage, land development and the military-industrial complex.
Last year, the blue-green algae crisis started in South Florida. This toxic algae caused environmental damage along the coast and still continues to be an issue to this day. The crisis made me think long and hard about the state of Florida, its environment and my place in its future. I felt scared and helpless when I thought about standing up to the business interests that continue to destroy the environment. This fear and anxiety led me to write this script, which tries to make the viewer feel what I feel about this situation.
This is not just a story about Florida, it is about how hierarchy and domination, everywhere, are responsible for the environmental destruction. It follows Artemis, and her AI companion, as they figure out how to instigate collective action to fight not only the business interestS that are causing ecocide but the very idea of hierarchy and domination.
My ambition for this project is to get people to think about the role of hierarchy in our systematic need to dominate and destroy nature. I also want people to think further about the role US Imperialism has been playing in ecocide. Not only with the countless forests turned to deserts, or the amount of pollution a bomb releases, but how US Imperialism has warped our ideologies and desensitized us to the basic idea of life. This story has come from my anxiety about my perceived lack of ability to bring the US war machine to an end, and bring justice and pay reparations to its victims.
The more donations we get, the more realistically we can render this world. Every dollar we get will go into production details that will make your viewing experience more immersive. The first thing we will be spending the money on is plane tickets to fly my crew to Florida. After that, we will be buying supplies to assemble props for production design and lighting. Our last major expense comes from equipment rentals, which will mostly be going into the lighting design of the film.
This film will be difficult because of the extremely condensed shooting schedule and the many variations in shooting set ups. My team has been practicing guerrilla filmmaking techniques for years and can operate seamlessly in both a bare-bones style, with minimal equipment, and with larger setups that include dozens of lights and other complex production details.
Writer/ Director - Kylie Malone
I am an aspiring Writer/Director who has been studying the TV/ Film business since I was a freshman in high school. Almost a decade later I have focused and refined my skills as a screenwriter and have made lighting a significant focus of my studies. I have made world building a central part of my film making and use many different styles to explore that world. After college, I plan to be a feature film writer/director and TV showrunner.
Producer - Begum Malkoclar
Hello!
This is Begum. Producer and director based in NYC and Istanbul, Turkey, currently studying at Pratt Institute.
I have always been very interested in listening and telling stories, and film quickly became a language for me to share my stories all around the globe. As romantic as it sounds, it is not that easy to translate words into pictures, especially, in this art form which requires a lot of organization, technique, and patience. It is the love and devotion to this passion that keeps us filmmakers going and the irresistible urge for creating encourages us to push ourselves to imagine the unimaginable.

The money raised on GoFundMe will go to the location, transportation, equipment, and food for the cast and crew. The crew will fly from New York to Florida. The bulk of the equipment will be rented in Florida. Any leftover money will go toward post-production and festival submissions. All donors will receive a digital copy of the movie.
