Dear Friends, Community, and Relatives of Cara...
I am launching this GoFundMe campaign to support Cara in the financial undertaking of her journey with breast cancer. Although she is still in the midst of her treatment process, it is estimated that she will be personally responsible for a minimum of $20,000. This includes out of pocket maximums for two years of insurance (2021 and 2022), costs for integrative and alternative practitioners, and supplements to support her system and mitigate side effects of treatment.
As many of you know she has completed 12 weeks of chemotherapy and wlll be undergoing surgery on Tuesday, January 18th. Pending the results of the surgery and subsequent biopsy, she will either continue onward with more chemotherapy (if it reveals that there is still cancer in her body) or carry on with the next stage of treatment which includes radiation.
If you feel moved, please consider contributing to this GoFundMe campaign - any amount that feels true for you - and consider sharing/forwarding/posting this to any of your networks.
With so much appreciation, Leslie
Below is a little blurb from Cara .. sharing a bit about her experience …
………................................................................................................................................
Hi dear people …
I sure never imagined I would find myself here. I never imagined that I would be summoned onto this initiatory path of breast cancer and asked to say ‘yes’ to the biggest death/birth cycle of my life.
Like any true initiation process, each threshold crossing I have traversed (ie: initial diagnosis, starting chemotherapy, losing my hair, being forced into early menopause, experiencing vision loss) has continued to strip, unravel, and dismember me deeper into the mystery and path of not-knowing.
However, as someone who has studied, facilitated, and actively participates in rite of passage experiences, I have reverence for these dark, mysterious and unchartered passages and soul foraging descents that life invites us into. And I know that it is from these unknown and untethered places where gifts are given and medicine is cultivated.
So, despite this process being messy, scary and disorienting it has undoubtedly been grace-filled, love-infused, and divinely-held. There have been many teachings here for me and I am committed to listening deeply and showing up fully to harvest, grow from, and incorporate what is being given. I am learning (from a visceral and embodied way): how interconnected we truly are; the healing power of love and community; the art of receiving (and realizing that my worth and value is not dependent on what I “do”); and knowing that even in the midst of challenge and adversity, love and grace are always present.
I am also learning about the power that rests within vulnerability and humility. So, it is from this freshly realized place, that I am reaching out to the concentric circles of love and support that have been holding me and keeping the hearth fire lit as I descend, unravel, and release into the new chapter of my becoming.
Although fiscal support is one of my current needs to complete this oh-so-expensive ‘passage’, there is no hook/expectation/pressure to show your support/care via this medium. Your ‘prayers’, love, and witnessing/holding of me has been the healing salve and nourishing tonic that has already and continues to keep me strong, trusting, and free-falling into the unknown.
Extending gratitude.
Bowing to this path.
Giving way.
Love. Love.
