I am a 33-year-old mother of two small boys Oskar (6) and Gustav (3) and wife of a wonderful husband.
I am  fighting for my life against cancer in the head and neck region - and I would like to undergo an innovative treatment in renowned oncology German clinic IOZK.

Check out my story and the new treatment which I hope will remove the tumour. It has a total cost of 53.000 €.

Help me win my long battle against cancer.

I am hoping to start the treatment as soon as possible, on the 1st April 2019.

I was first diagnosed with base of tongue cancer caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) back in 2016. Doctors told me there was nothing to worry about that 80% of the cases are easily treatable by 6 weeks of radio chemotherapy which if subsequently received.

The treatment was effective, a lot less scary than I thought, and the tumour disappeared fast. I continued living my life, went back to work, raised my kids until 9 months later during a regular check-up, the tumour was back in the same spot. This time the doctors realised that I was in the 20% of people for whom this disease returns. The best cure this time was decided that half of my base of tongue had to be removed by surgery.

After a long recovery period from the surgery and getting used to the new situation my life continued. I had to re-learn eating and speaking a bit but I could continue my normal life.

But 6 months later my throat started swelling up and the tumour was back again. During spring 2018, I underwent several surgeries where they performed a total pharyngolaryngetomy which means I lost the ability to swallow and speak with my mouth. On top of that I underwent more radiotherapy but the cancer returned just 4 weeks after. I also received the much talked about Nobel prize winning immunotheraphy but again without results.

Now, I have been living with my tumour for the last 9 months. I have changed my diet, exercised, taken my life very easy, used all kinds of alternative medicine options and the tumor has stayed regional.

I would like to undergo the tumour vaccine treatment in German clinic IOZK   which has state-of-the-art and innovative solutions creating antibodies to fight cancer from my own blood cells. The initial tests done show potential for promising results. Unfortunately, the cost is very high and my insurance does not cover this.

Check out the German clinic and the novel treatment online

Therefore, I am gratefully asking you to donate anything in your means to help me win my battle against cancer.

Mari, our friend and colleague, died suddenly yesterday, Thursday 25th April.
Our sadness is immense, the incredible participation to the crowd funding campaign and the numerous messages had really boosted Mari.
Two Sundays ago, she was preparing a tiramisu for the birthday of her youngest son and sending us the photographs.
This week, she got on the boat from Tallinn to Cologne with her husband and on Tuesday sent us a message to say how good she was feeling and how excited she was of embarking on the second step of the treatment.

In these moments of sorrow, we think about her family, her two sons, her husband Jorge, her parents - in the coming days, announcements will be made on how Mari’s memory will be honoured.
Today, our grief is too high for anything other than simply saying thanks to all of you for being there.

We will keep you posted in the coming days with updates

Today, we are happy to close the ‘donation’ link - one happy step in an otherwise difficult and long path for Mari.
And this is what this is about, one step at the time to get Mari back on track.
So this is a huge and positive step in the right direction.

We reached our target and Mari has the budget to continue the treatment, travelling between Estonia and Germany every 3 weeks (2.000 km each way, by boat and by car).
We will keep this campaign open on the ‘news’ front - every time we post an update, you get an email.
This is for us the fastest and most efficient way to keep you all updated.

As supporters of this campaign, we wanted to thank all of you - the support has just been overwhelming.
Six hundred (yes, 600!!!) people have donated to this campaign in 16 days.

When we initiated the campaign, we planned weekly calls to organise the ‘promotion of the campaign’ - we moved these to daily whatsapps about ‘geez, this campaign is just growing so fast’.
We were worried about how to reach our target, and we became worried about how not to go beyond target!

We had the impression that we had initiated something and it overtook us - in speed, in impact, and in kindness.

As Mari wrote, this campaign reached out to family, friends, friends of friends, and many colleagues from the cyber-security world - an appreciation of Mari as a person, as a colleague, as a ‘cyber-woman’.

Mari will thank each of you individually, just give her enough time to do it! The General Data Protection regulation which protects our private life also prevents us from getting access to your email addresses, so she has to go on this site and handle all of you one by one.

We hope that each of you will take this update as a very personal note - in addition to the messages that Mari posted in English and Estonian a few days ago.

Until the next update, an enormous thanks to all of you.

A message from Mari

Dear family, friends, friends of friends and all the other kind people who donated for my cause,

I want to write this letter to you to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the donations, messages and support you have sent me along this difficult journey. Alongside my children and family, you have given me a lot of positivity and strength to carry forward in this fight. There are no guarantees in this life but all I can do is give my best and hope modern medicine can also do some wonders. Your support has touched me in the deepest ways and reminded me that there is a lot of love left in this world.

In this fight, emotionally there are ups and downs, darker days and brighter days and sometimes it is easy to get lost in different negative emotions like despair, helplessness, panic, rage and so on. I have felt all of them along the way, processed them and tried to move past them. Your support brought tears into my eyes for all the love and the feeling of pure gratefulness for life and love around us. Thank you for this!

My treatment has now started and the results are yet to be seen. I am hopeful it will give me a chance to move forward with my life and continue sharing this life with you, family and friends.
