SVNSM Sea Wall

Tax deductible
The Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum was created in 1997 with the hopes of bringing a retired U.S. Navy Ship to Bay City, Michigan. It took many years of hard work but that dream came true when the USS Edson sailed into Bay City on August 7, 2012. In April of 2013 she came to her final mooring place next to the Independence Bridge.
2019 brought high waters all along the Saginaw River causing continued flooding though the entire year. The high waters are expected to continue for the next few years.
While the USS Edson is safe and seeing no ill effects from the flooding, the museum grounds are eroding at a rapid rate. We have lost a large portion of the grassy area that has always been used for our large events and car show. It has also damaged a large portion of our parking lot. Sadly, it also resulted in lost revenue as we has several days where we were forced to close during our busiest time of the year.
Our only solution is to build a seawall.
We spoke with several contractors and chose one who is located in Bay City. Unfortunately, we are looking at an estimated cost of $216,000. This is almost twice our yearly operating budget.
We are reaching out to all of our supporters in hopes that we can raise the money to get the seawall built this year.
