On Wednesday April 29th my good friend Candyce's, long time dream of a new kidney will finally come true! I have had the pleasure to work side by side with Candyce at Starbucks for the last 6 years. I have watched her work her way through college always insuring she worked enough hours to keep her health insurance. Even through Candyce has a degree in Communicative Disorders / Speech & Language Pathology , her dream of helping people has been put on hold. Chonic Kindey disease makes it hard to function on a daily basis, she must limit her daily activity and stay on a strick renal diet. Since a little girl Candyce has struggled with CKD. I have heard her stories of major surgeries and extened hospital stays. Candyce is not the type of person to use her illness as a ctuch. To my knowledge I have never heard her ask for help. About 7 months ago Candyce's kindeys began to fail and was told she needed a transplant. Her friend has graciously offered to donate one of her kidneys to Candyce. Although Starbucks has good health insurance she will still need to pay for a percentance of the cost of the surgery. The anti rejection medication that she will need to take for a year is VERY expensive. She must travel to UCLA three times a week for the first few months for bloodwork and medication adjustments. Gas and the12 dollar parking fees everytime she goes, are enough to send anybody to the poor house. She will not be working for a few months and Starbucks is her only sourse of income for paying rent and other expenses. Candyce is a loving and kind person. I look forword to the day that she will have her new kidney and she can follow her dream of helping others. She has a long journey ahead of her she needs us now. Thanks you for any amount that you are able to give.
