Support Sven Haakanson and Family

Our friend and colleague Sven Haakanson's home in Seattle was recently burglarized.  Sven's cameras and equipment were stolen, along with his computers,  hard drives containing 10 years of irreplaceable images and research,  bikes,  carving tools, the family's stereo, and even fish he had sent home from Alaska. Also taken were his daughters’ banjo and violin, which the children had saved their own money to buy.

The purpose of this fund is to replace the girls' musical instruments, offer a reward for the return of the stolen hard drives, and support the Haakanson family.

Sven has dedicated his life to the preservation and revitalization of indigenous language and culture. He is a professor of anthropology at the University of Washington and Curator of Native American Anthropology at the Burke Museum. He was formerly the Executive Director of the Alutiiq Museum in Kodiak, Alaska. Sven was awarded a MacAurthur Fellowship in 2007.

Please support Sven Haakanson and family.
