In mid September 2018 I was misdiagnosed with gout for several months when I actually had septic arthritis. Several months went by before receiving appropriate medical treatment and was declared cured in March 2019. I missed a lot of work during this time and my employer let me go in early April 2019. State insurance will eventually kick back in but it will not cover my current doctor or the expensive medication. Even with GoodRX coupons I am not able to afford it. I'm actively looking for employment with the help of recruiters. Due to an error caused by my former employer I am not receiving unemployment benefits and I somehow owe the government over $400. I am appealing all of this, but I can't keep up with my bills, student loans, medical appointments, medications, and the unexpected stuff..... like a replacement for my broken cell phone or the last minute ticket to New York for a family emergency.
The purpose of this fundraiser has changed. When I was employed it was a helpful way to get myself out of dept. My medical bills almost maxed out my $9000 limit credit card. It's much lower now, but I'm starting to fall behind again. If you have been following my story, then you already know what happened and you're aware of the struggles I currently face. With this being said, I deleted all the details of how I got here.
Currently, the purpose of this fundraiser is to help keep my head above water until I'm employed again. Hopefully that will next month. I had to talk this over with a few of my closest friends because I felt that asking for money was unethical. One friend reminded me of how crippling sepsis is, as well as ALL life threatening medical emergencies, and we ALL know how it feels to lose a job during an inconvenient time.
