Suzy and Jerry Hinds in need of help!

Both Suzy and Jerry are now unable to work due to life changing sickness. In December 2020 Suzy was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Which is now terminal. She went through chemo, radiation, immunotherapy drugs and was NED (no evidence of disease) in December 2021. NED lasted until August 2022 when the cancer returned and aggressively spread to her lungs and other parts of her body. Suzy had 5 Keytruda infusions end of 2022 into January 2023, to shrink the cancer but it wasn’t successful and symptoms got worse causing shortness of breath, wheezing, severe weight loss, thick mucus buildup making it impossible to keep down liquids and solids. Suzy has now lost around 60lbs in 6 months.

Suzy has been unable to attend her job for quite some time as a sexton at Church which makes her feel sad and useless but she is just not well enough.

There was hope at Moffitt in Tampa which is a 3-4 hour trip across state but this is now off the cards.

Last option is for a drug called Tivdak in Melbourne if Suzy is eligible and well enough to receive, although not much movement on treatment as yet.

As if the family hadn’t received enough bad news recently, Suzy’s husband took a terrible fall in the hall way Friday 10th March 2023. Jerry suffers with Neuropathy in his legs and as a result of the fall now has a broken fibula on his right leg and fractured left ankle. This has resulted in both legs in plaster cast following two operations at the weekend.

Jerrys job is as an Uber/private driver which he is now unable to do, for many weeks and months due to no mobility. Jerry was previously a real estate agent but since his neuropathy got worse has been unable to show/do open houses.

Jerry spent two days in a rehabilitation facility where he received support with mobility as he is unable to put pressure on his legs.

Jerry came home to be with his wife as made good progress at the rehabilitation facility and is able to transfer himself from wheelchair to bed etc.

At this time they are lucky Suzy’s daughters (Emma and Leanne) flew over from UK to support them on 6th March for a 4 week period. But they are both unable to drive in USA, now leaving the family worried about hospital appointments for Suzy when they are arranged and are relying on friends of the church for lifts, as Jerry was Suzy’s care giver.

The most worrying part of this experience is the financial stress now upon the family due to Suzy and Jerry now both unable to work.

Suzy and Jerry are in need of financial aid to cover household bills and utilities for the foreseeable future in order to keep the house. They are a Christian family who don’t usually call out for help, and have always supported others in need.
