SAVE OUR SUGAR

Donation protected
My name is Driller and I own the iconic Adelaide institution  SUGAR.

SUGAR  is the cities link to the Global Dance Music Scene. For nearly 20 years it has stood as the cultural hub for International Producers and Deejays, Live Bands and Visual Artists and a mecca for the cities young and young at heart to experience music as the focus of operations in a safe and caring environment.
We have faced difficulties in the past, of course most recently with the existential threat of Covid19 but 2020 was nothing compared to the situation facing us now.

WE NEED YOUR HELP.
With the generous administrative aid from our dear friends Crown Ruler, we are once again able to open in our fight to stay open!
Over 5 weekends, Crown Ruler will unlock our doors for a special fundraiser to KEEP SUGAR ALIVE.
With support from four of our most prominent party purveyors, Fridays and Saturdays will play host to Groundfloor, Endless Grooves, Localise & Desire Dance Club in order to raise funds, pay bills and keep staff employed.
Since 2002 Sugar has acted as a home for both our creative and dance communities. Countless memories and connections have been made on our dancefloor. Know that we would never do this unless it were absolutely necessary, but we are left with simply no other option. This is our cry for help. We humbly ask anyone who believes in what we do, who has found joy or inspiration within our small club, to please support us in the biggest fight of our life.

Our Story
If COVID-19 was the earthquake, the past few months have been the tsunami for our humble home. We survived the 6 month long lockdown with you, we renovated and reopened under crippling restrictions but you supported us and we thrived. Then we found ourselves in an extraordinary situation. While the rest of our city found its feet, the challenges we faced have only got worse. We are in a bureaucratic nightmare that has legally forced us to remain shut in spite of all of our best intentions and compliance.
With the exception of the Marcellus Pittman Weekender, an event organised and covered also by Crown Ruler, Sugar has frustratingly remained closed due to complications outside of our control.
For many months we hung on through JobKeeper. Now we just have our wits and our will to survive. We’ve worked in overdrive, consulting with lawyers, accountants, government officials, brokers and more in an attempt to open our doors for our beautiful dancers. The ramifications of the pandemic have left us with no answers. Know that we’ve done everything in our power to weather the storm but it’s come to this. The sad reality is, the longer this continues, the closer Sugar is to sinking.
We need resources to find a way to survive. We are facing an uphill challenge and we will need money and awareness to continue searching for a breakthrough. That is why we have created this GoFundMe. We ask you for your support.

The Party
Join us for a series of events that will remind us of how positively intertwined Sugar’s music community is. A demonstration of our resolve and of our ability to connect and inspire. Beyond the serious stuff, it’s also time to let your hair down. Twist and contort yourself to some of the finest DJs and artists in the country, along with the return of an inimitable international guest.
Crown Ruler presents a bonafide all-star cast of dancefloor know-how, from venerated legends like Marcellus Pittman (USA) and DJ JNETT, to genre-pushing new renegades such as Komang and Setwun. Five weekends of quality music from a crew who also found their beginnings under our roof.
