Living in London

Christine MacDonald has been living and working as a Gynae Doctor in Lusaka Zambia for over 16 years. In that time she has helped many women medically and provided a home and schooling for many boys with serious health problems and from vulnerable backgrounds.

Christine is in London at the moment as she needs a Liver Transplant. There is no timeline for this as she just has to wait for one to become available. While the medical costs of hospital admissions and the operation are covered living in London or the surrounding areas is expensive.

Don, her husband, is currently in Lusaka, Zambia and has managed to travel to see her once in the 4 months she has been away.

During their time in Zambia Don and Christine have had over 100 boys live with them at Old MacDonalds Farm. Some have been seriously unwell and all of them have been from vulnerable backgrounds. In addition to this they have supported over 150 children outside of the farm to go to school paying school fees and providing school supplies and uniforms.

In a country where good medical care is hard to find Christine has been involved in may cases where women have needed to seek specialist treatment and has saved many lives, from emergency operations to taking a wholistic approach when treating a patient.  She has also offered counselling to many who had no one else to talk to or could not afford other services.

Some of the costs we are hoping to help cover are:
- medicine
Christine is having to buy her medicines pre-transplant as she is in the UK and
not covered by the NHS. Her insurance will cover her post transplant but she has exceeded
             her limit for pre-transplant.
 - transport.
Christine has been advised not to use public transport, the cost of taxis quickly
             adds up.
Her family all live a long way from London so visits are limited.
- day to day living

Let's help Christine as she has helped so many others! Thank you in advance.

To answer some peoples questions about who I am and why I am doing this.

I have been living and working with Don and Christine in Lusaka, Zambia since 2009 when I moved from the UK.  As a close family friend and colleague I have seen how generously they have given to help so many people. Lots of people asked how they can help and what the needs are. Through this page I am able to coordinate financial support, keep people updated as to what the funds will cover. Don will have access to withdraw the money as needed.
Thank you for your support.
