Suzanne Recovery: Devastating Injuries

My dear mom, Suzanne Burnell, has suffered a devastating injury and needs community support to receive urgently needed treatment. Distressingly, insurance will not cover the care she needs, and our family is requesting urgent community support to afford nursing and rehabilitation.

On October 21, Suzanne broke both her shoulders and arms. She underwent emergency surgery and is unable to begin any shoulder movements for six weeks, leaving her entirely dependent on round-the-clock nursing and rehabilitation care.

Their insurance will not cover ongoing and necessary care. Because she cannot move her arms, it is not possible to meet the insurance company’s progress requirements. While my mom is under strict doctor’s orders not to move her shoulders, the insurance company is dictating that she must move her shoulders to receive coverage. Therefore, we need to pay out-of-pocket costs of $550-700 dollars a day for at least a month.

Every doctor, physical therapist, and nurse has had to learn how to work with Suzanne’s injuries. This is an incredibly unusual and complex situation. Luckily, she has received exceptional medical care, and, if she is allowed to continue in rehabilitation, she will recover well.

The medical costs plus months of lost income are a tremendous financial burden.
