Suzan McKenzie's Memorial Fund

Donation protected
Dear Faithful Warriors,

It is with great sadness that we tell you of the passing of our precious Suzan on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 2:26pm.  We are all heartbroken that we have lost our dear friend, yet it is with great joy that we know she entered the physical presence of Jesus when she left us. In her final days and hours, she was surrounded by her adoring children and grandchildren and of course, her beloved Pete.

We hope that you can join us as we honor and celebrate Suzan and her remarkable life.

Original Post February 2017:

This Go-Fund-Me Page has been set up on behalf of our dear, sweet friend Suzan McKenzie who is in a battle against cancer. On February 15th, Pete and Suzan received the news that our beloved Suzan had a walnut-sized tumor embedded deeply in her brain. The tumor was putting pressure on her brain causing her to experience the frustrating confusion and memory loss that first alerted them to the problem. In the weeks to follow, she underwent numerous tests and scans followed by brain surgery on March 8th to remove the cancerous tumor. She is in very good hands and receiving the country’s best medical care at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. Praise God they had friends with connections that lead them to a world-renowned facility that has been voted the best cancer hospital in the country 9 out of the last 10 years! Pete is keeping us updated through texts and emails and here are the next steps…

On Thursday, April 6th, Suzan underwent a “gamma knife” procedure as follow-up surgery on the tumor site to make sure that the microscopic cancer cells that remained after the cyst was removed were taken care of once and for all. Because the tumor in her brain was the type that comes from somewhere else in her body, further testing was done and a PET scan revealed that Suzan has a small lesion/nodule in her lung. As a result, she had a needle biopsy of the nodule on Monday, April 10th to determine what type of lesion it is and if it is related to the breast cancer she had two years ago.  In the days following the biopsy, Suzan developed a blood clot in her lung that she is now being treated for and until her condition improves, they will remain in Texas and delay their return home.

So many questions are yet to be answered that will determine the type of treatments necessary and options to pursue. Once all of that is established, Pete and Suzan intend to return home to California for her treatment. We anticipate that will all be clarified in the coming days. In the meantime, they greatly appreciate you continuing to lift them both up in prayer.

So many of us are in Suzan’s corner, loving her, cheering her on, praying for her and for Pete.  Many people have reached out asking how they can help and we’re hoping this Go-Fund-Me page will be part of the answer. Suzan (and Pete) have a long journey ahead of them. Thankfully, insurance has covered most of the medical expenses thus far, however, as you can imagine, cancer is a very costly disease. Out-of-pocket medical expenses and co-payments, physical and speech therapies, travel expenses, hotel accommodations in Houston, as well as household expenses back at home continue to add up. With the funds we raise on their behalf we hope to alleviate much of the financial burden they are incurring. If you would like to send cards or letters or make a donation by check directly to the McKenzies, here is the address to mail to:

This is just one way we can all work together to help our dear friends as they “fight the good fight” and beat this cancer once and for all.
