Kristen, my sister-in-law and friend for over ten years, was diagnosed with kidney disease just a little over five years ago. I was with her for a regular doctor's visit when he said one of her tests came back showing abnormal results for her kidneys. That moment changed everything. She was then sent to a kidney specialist and diagnosed with stage three kidney disease. Devastated doesn't even begin to describe the feelings upon hearing that news. She completely changed her lifestyle, eating healthier and more kidney friendly foods. Started taking the prescribed medications for it. But unfortunately, things only progressed. She is now in end stage renal disease and has critically low kidney function . She met with a transplant team at MUSC and was told the entire process would cost over $300,000. And she has to have $5,000 upfront before they will even begin the process. The $5,000 will cover things such as additional tests, various medications, insurance copays, etc. She is of course unable to work and is already trying to support her amazing daughter. So I'm asking that we all try and give what donations we can to help her start this process and be able to have a long, healthy and happy life. Doesn't have to be anything monumental, every little bit helps. I love her like she is my own sister and watching her suffer and not be able to do anything to stop it has been tough. She is so giving and never thinks twice about helping others . So, again, I ask that we do what we can to help this extraordinary woman through one of the toughest times in her life. Thank you all in advance.
