Byron's kidney transplant
Donation protected
Byron Avila was diagnosed with kidney failure about 11 months ago. One day he was at work and he started to feel sick. He thought it was allergies at first because he couldn't stop sneezing. The next day, he volunteered at the James Beard event and his condition worsened. On that Friday he went back to his normal job and couldn't walk through the parking lot because he ran out of breath. On that Saturday he was violently ill and went to the hospital with his family. The doctors told him that his lungs were filled with water. After a variety of tests, he was diagnosed with kidney failure and bronchitis. He was told that he only had 10% of his kidneys left. He received four blood transfusions and started dialysis right away.Despite his adversity, Byron attended all of his classes at FDU. One month ago, he learned that his mothers kidney was a match. In 2 weeks, Byron will have the kidney transplant. Due to his illness, Byron had to stop working and a good portion of the medical expenses will not be covered by insurance. Let’s help support him and his family in their time of need!!
