For those who don’t know, I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. As with most of us in the service industry, health insurance is not something easily afforded or accessible. I was sitting on the couch one day watching a funny movie when I held my hand to my chest from laughing so hard. In one split second I went from joyous laughter to immediate fear. I felt a large lump in my breast that I had never felt before. I had just done a self exam not 3 weeks prior and couldn’t feel anything. I immediately made an appointment with Planned Parenthood. They had a program that would help me cover the first couple steps and the hope was, it’s maybe a swollen gland or cyst. They were very helpful during the whole process but when my biopsy came back positive, that’s when the funding ended. They were able to help me through the testing but they don’t take care of treatment. I’ve been trying apply for Medicaid and other programs that will help cover the cost of treatment but have not had any success as of yet. On 7/28 I will be hosting a benefit in Austin,TX to help raise funds for treatment and expenses due to any loss of work during that time. I have created this gofundme for those I know who live out of state or who will not be able to attend but would still like to donate.
