Hey you incredible Humankind!
Way to be both! ~_^
My name is Caitlin (Cait ...Caty, whatever you know me by)...I have never been so enthused about an opportunity as this program abroad in Denmark...during my first year as a proud Colorado State University Ram, and first year back from injuries! I have always been passionate about sustainable solutions that not only restore the environment, and surrounding ecosystems, but engage and empower communities in the process--particularly marginalized and minority populations.
I began my studies as an Environmental Engineer in 2018 at MSU Denver, soon pursuing their High Honors Program and adding on a second, Sustainable Systems Engineering Major. In May of 2021, as the world was emerging from the global pandemic, I was hit by a car while riding my bicycle to the local store. I suffered extensive, ongoing injuries--including a severe concussion--for which I never received restitution. I don't share this looking for pity (in fact I am quite sick of talking about it), however, it has left me in the financial predicament of having to request support from family, friends, and any generous community members--perhaps like yourself--to truly pursue my goals.
So why now? Why this program?
Well, since my first discoveries of Copenhagen's alliance to sustainable initiatives, I have been eager to study and apply their methods. So much so that I began teaching myself Danish during the pandemic to prepare for graduate programs or future independent studies in Denmark. I hope to apply my knowledge in partnership with the Samso Energy Academy, and cannot wait to meet the organizer in May. When i first learned about 'BIG's development of Copenhill, in the heart of the city, it blew me away. A similar engineering vision of mine is what led me into the world of engineering to begin with!!
It would be an absolute dream come true to study their approaches firsthand, in the sustainability capital of the world, and I cannot thank you enough for your support in this effort.
You can read more about the program here.
I'd also like to share my motivational statement, as it was the first essay of this kind that I ever actually finished...and proudly submitted by the priority deadlines, thanks to the support of several special people in my life, just before finals.
There is plenty more where that came from, too. I will be applying to several scholarships in the weeks ahead, and contributing all earnings, as well as my upcoming Research Assistant and any additional profits to this fund myself too.
I so deeply and vastly appreciate whatever amount you are able to contribute--whether $1, or $100. Without you, this dream would never be possible.
Keep going, keep growing!! Together, we can be the change we seek in this world--and in ourselves.
.Trust.Love.
