I have started this fundraiser for my brave and beautiful friend Susie Hahn-Gilbert. As she battles Breast Cancer for the second time, many wonderful people have asked what they can do to help. Though Susie would never ask anyone for anything, I am asking for her.
It has become apparent that the best thing we can come together and do for Susie is to provide her with financial support. Medical bills and expenses related to treating her cancer and needing to take time off are becoming extremely difficult.
Susie was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Breast Cancer 16 years ago. She fought an incredibly hard battle, and with her family by her side, she won. She and her family learned to move on and hoped to never have to relive that challenge.
As God would decide, in October, Susie was diagnosed with Breast cancer for the second time. She has had an initial surgery and will be undergoing another surgery in February. There is a new test used for screening different types of cancer called the ONCO test. Some of Susie's breast tissue was sent to California for testing to see if she would have to undergo chemotherapy and radiation again. Luckily, this was not the case this time around, as Susie will only be on oral chemotherapy for at least 10 years.
For anyone who knows Susie, you know that she lives her life to give everything to others. As a single parent, she raises three amazing young ladies: Kaitie, Kelsey and Kim. Susie juggles three jobs to give her family what they need. But most abundantly, Susie gives her family and friends unconditional love and courage. My hope is that we can come together and give this love back to her.
We are going to have a short fundraiser and are hopeful to raise enough money to reach our goal in a week, as the need for help is now.
Shortly after we close the GoFundMe Account, we will present Susie with the funds. We will have a casual get-together and would love for anyone who donates to join us and show her your love. I will post the date and location in the future!
