Susan Threeton - LA Flood Recovery
Donation protected
Susan Threeton’s home flooded in the early hours of August 13, 2016 during the historic “1,000 Year” flood of Louisiana’s River Parishes. She took on a foot of water in her bedroom, bathroom, den, and laundry room.
My name is Pamela, and Susan is my mom. Susan is a widow living on a Social Security fixed income. She lives north of Holden, LA. Like 80% of the residents in Livingston Parish, she doesn’t have flood insurance because this area has never flooded before. However, since her home is zoned in a flood plain and she doesn’t have flood insurance, she’s been told she will receive no assistance from FEMA.
Susan’s road to recovery will be a long one, and she is now in great need. Many people have asked how they can help. The truth is, more than anything, Susan needs money to rebuild and refurnish her home.
Her needs are:
New paneling for 4 rooms
Insulation for 4 rooms
New doors for her bedroom, laundry room, bathroom, and bathroom closet
New sink vanity for the bathroom
New sofa and chair for the den
All money collected will be used to purchase the above items. Any donation, no matter how small, will help my mom.
Asking for help is not easy for most people, including Susan. But in this great time of need in South Louisiana, Mom is among the best of those people who need help. I live in Metairie now, but I grew up in Livingston Parish (Springfield) and still consider it my home. Since my mom is so overwhelmed with clean-up and rebuilding, I have taken over the financial aspects of her recovery. I'm handling all the donations, and will be making the purchases as she rebuilds. I plan to withdraw money from this campaign as we need it to buy supplies and furnishings.
Thank you all for caring, and for helping in any way you can, including well wishes and moral support.

The front of Susan's house after the water had receded from inside, but the outside was still flooded.

Pictured above is the door to Susan's laundry room. You can see the water line.

Susan's dog Joey, looking out at the flooded yard. You can see all the items she spent all night piling up in the front bedroom, to save them from the rising flood water.

One of the many piles of flood-damaged walls and furniture we removed from Susan's house.

Volunteer labor is helping to gut Susan's walls, thank goodness. It's a long and arduous process.

That's my mom, Susan, in the middle with my husband Ryan and me after a long day of gutting her walls. We were tired and sweaty and sad, but still smiling. That's the Louisiana way!
