Mary (in the picture above) was my housekeeper when I was living in Nairobi until April this year. She is a single mum works extremely hard to keep not just herself and her son, but also support her wider family in Nakuru. This year her niece Susan managed a remarkable achievement. Despite the handicap of living in an extremely poor family, and only being able to afford to attend the local school, Susan was accepted for a place at university - the first person in her family ever to do so.
Susan has been selected to read for a bachelors degree in Building Technology at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in Nyeri, Kenya. So far, so amazing. However, there is a snag. She has to pay fees. They aren't huge, but, as it stands it is an impossibility for her family to raise such funds. But we can make a difference.
£3000 would see Susan through her entire university course and, whilst it is not an insignificant amount, I know that we can do this. Three thousand £1 contributions, or one single generous donation of three thousand pounds - it doesn't matter. But I have faith that we can do this for her. We can't change the world, but we can change this family's world.
Pleas help us do this.
