Susanne’s Story: From Walking to Wheelchair
Donation protected
Susanne has spent the last 43 years taking care of others as a Nurse in Owensound, Ontario.
The priority of taking care of others came naturally. Until she had encountered cramping and pain in her calves.
Spending hours on her feet, as a nurse in a local nursing home it was presumed due to the strain of constantly being on her feet. This became so severe that the next 4 months were spent sleeping in a recliner.
After driving one day her body from waste down became numb.
At this time she decided it was time to go to the hospital. After numerous tests and blisters starting to appear, 3 weeks later she could no longer walk and was in a wheelchair.
Legs were swollen, toes turned black. To only find out there was no blood flow to her legs.
Susanne had suffered an abdominal aneurysm, resulting in loss of the right leg and a stint placed from left abdomen to chest in hopes to save the left leg.
Two years later, the stint suddenly stopped working. Foot turned black, at this point Susanne realized she would soon loose her other leg in November 2023.
Now that Susanne cannot take care of others she has had to focus on herself, adapting to new conditions in life.
A wheel chair, prosthetics, mobile aids and renovations to the house to become independent once again.
The funds raised will contribute towards all of above to support this amazing lady that continues to push through the days with positive thoughts.
Thank you for the time and support!
