Hi everyone, As some of you may know, I am scheduled to donate one of my kidneys to my cousin who is suffering from a genetic form of kidney failure. The surgery date is Aug 13th 2025. I am thrilled to be able to make this donation to a loved one, however, there are many costs associated with the donation journey including flights to Ontario, hotel stays, and taking 4-6 weeks off work. There is some reimbursement for costs that I can receive through the Trillium Gift of Life Network, however, there are still many costs associated that are not eligible for reimbursement. There is also no estimated timeline as to when I will be reimbursed. I am a self employed artist without private health benefits, which also leads to uncovered specialist appointments.
