Help Susanna Wicks Fight Rare Ovarian Cancer
Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,
We never imagined we’d be writing these words. On October 1st, our beloved Susanna
Wicks was diagnosed with Stage 1C2 small cell ovarian cancer hypercalcemic — a rare
and aggressive form of ovarian cancer marked by dangerously high calcium levels in
the blood. This diagnosis has turned her world upside down, and now we are rallying
together to help her fight.
Susanna is a wife to James and a loving mother to Jackson (6) and Madeline (2). She’s
also a cherished sister, daughter, friend, and community leader. Until recently, she
managed Watson’s Children Shelter in Missoula, Montana — a role she poured her
heart into. But now, she’s had to step away from her career to focus entirely on her
treatment.
Her journey began in September with some abdominal discomfort. What seemed minor
quickly escalated into a life-altering diagnosis. A CT scan revealed a 15cm mass on her
ovary, and she was airlifted to Billings Clinic for emergency surgery to remove the
tumor, and a radical hysterectomy. While the procedure brought some relief, the battle
was just beginning.
Susanna and James have recently traveled to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston,
Texas, where she’s receiving specialized care. Her chemotherapy regimen is an
aggressive treatment: six cycles of six different drugs administered over three days in
the hospital, with 21-day intervals between each cycle. Following this, she’ll receive a
hi-dose chemo and stem cell transplant. The financial burden of travel, lodging,
treatment, and lost income is immense — and that’s where we humbly ask for your help.
Who Susanna Is
Susanna was raised in Lakeside, Montana. After graduating from Flathead high school,
she moved to Missoula to further her education, graduating from the University of
Montana with a bachelor’s degree in social work. During that time, she met James, and
they were married in 2017. They have created a life in Missoula, Montana for
themselves and their two beautiful children, Jackson and Madeline. Susanna has
worked in social work and childcare positions and organizations in and around Missoula
for over 10 years. Her knowledge, kindness, and hard-working mentality have made her
an asset of tremendous impact to those in her community. Working with children,
especially those less fortunate or disenfranchised, is truly her calling. Susanna is a kind,
caring and friendly person who lights up every room and would give you the shirt off
her back. She’s the friend who remembers your birthday, the mom who makes every
moment magical, and the sister who shows up — always. She loves fiercely, gives
selflessly, and works tirelessly to make the world a better place.
Her ideal day? Morning coffee with her family, giggles from her kids, and a hike in the
Montana sunshine. She deserves many more of those days.
How You Can Help
