Susan McNamee - Cancer Warrior. Help the Fight!

We are raising funds for Susan McNamee, Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Sister-in-law and Friend to many. Susan has been a caregiver most of her life and is the one person to always be there to help others including friends and family. And, although it’s taken a lot of convincing, Susan finally agreed to setting up this Go Fund Me page to aid in her long, arduous journey toward recovering from cancer.
Susan has been battling cancer since July 2019 when she was diagnosed with head and neck cancer. She is receiving good care and exceptional innovative treatment from Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center in NYC. In September 2019, she endured 13 hours of surgery on her mouth, neck and face followed by 8 weeks of daily and debilitating radiation therapy in NYC during which she and her caregivers stayed at the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge. Due to the lasting effects of radiation treatments and eating challenges, Susan had to reluctantly quit her job at Taconic Hills Central School District. We were joyful in March 2020 after she received a clean scan, but unfortunately it was short-lived. In May we learned the cancer had spread to her lung. The growth in her lung was removed via robotic bronchoscopy, followed by another series of radiation treatments and a serious infection. After a clean scan in July, she began preventative immunotherapy treatments. Shortly after beginning immunotherapy, Susan suffered an unrelated mild stroke which has impacted her vision in one eye. Worsening headaches in late summer/early fall led to another CT Scan which identified a small tumor on the side of her face pressing on nerves. Since December she's been undergoing chemotherapy bi-weekly at MSK and begins 7 weeks of daily, ground-breaking Proton Beam Therapy in NYC on February 24, 2021. Although we were all elated to learn her insurance agreed to cover the cutting-edge Proton Beam Therapy, we encountered a major roadblock in finding NYC housing for 7 weeks.
Needed Assistance
Susan lives in upstate NY, 2.5 hours from NYC. Due to the pandemic, charitable housing options in the City, such as Hope Lodge, are not available. The short-term rental fee for her 7 week stay is $8650, which includes the 15% MSK Cancer Center discount. We greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide to defray the costs for housing which is not covered by insurance. Your financial assistance will ease the financial burden and stress on Susan and her husband Tim and will go a long way in helping her recover from this wretched, debilitating disease.
