Susan M. Martin of Wichita, Kansas passed on May 11, 2020.
Susan embodied the true spirit of scouting and Christianity. She gave generously of her time and talents and touched many lives through her many volunteer efforts She was a trainer for the American Red Cross and had a calling for teaching, especially history, her favorite subject. An award-winning volunteer, Susan received the Wiedemann Award in 2018 for her dedication and service to the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland council. Plus she was a leader of Troop 40069, she coordinated Fall Sales for her service unit, served as service unit treasurer, helped teach First Aid classes for council, organized and ran Thinking Day events and American Girl Camp for a number of years. In addition to Girl Scouts, Susan was a Committee Member and Merit Badge Counselor of Boy Scout Troop 522. Active in her church, she was a Sunday school organizer and teacher, ran a Bible Club at area elementary school, and assisted with Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse.
Susan shared a duplex with her daughter Rachael and two grandchildren, helping oversee their distance learning and sharing living expenses. Her unexpected illness and passing left little time for the family to prepare and they are in need of help with final costs, plus future expenses the family may face.
