Susan Kopf Recovery Fund

Hello, our names are Amanda and Serena Kopf, and we are raising funds for our mom Susan Kopf.

Our mom is an avid exerciser, an adventurous and energetic spirit, and a kind, loving soul. Unfortunately, in January of 2024, our mom was unexpectedly diagnosed and hospitalized with a kidney infection caused by bacteria colonizing on a highly enlarged kidney stone lodged in her kidney. The stone is too large and dangerous to remove on its own, so after an operation to deal with the infection, she was sent home on IV antibiotics so the infection could be treated.

After a rigorous two week cycle of IV antibiotics, Susan had to return to the Emergency Room two days after her last dose. She was diagnosed with septic shock and was sent to the ICU immediately. It was determined that the kidney's function was close to none, it is impossible to scrub the kidney of the infection, and the stone is still unable to be passed naturally or removed. Because of this, the kidney has to be removed. During the course of treatment leading up to the nephrectomy, Susan experienced multiple micro-strokes which caused neurological impairment. This unfortunate and damaging complication has caused the nephrectomy to be postponed due to safety risks surrounding post-stroke anesthesia administration.

In the meantime, bills are mounting. Our mom has out-of-pocket expenses related to her initial hospitalization and treatment, her subsequent ER visit and admittance to the hospital, and unknown costs at this time related to ongoing treatment and recovery. This includes medical expenses, as well as living expenses while Susan is unable to work. The financial implications are substantial, and Susan's insurance is not sufficient to cover all expenses. We would like to make sure that any stress related to finances is alleviated as much as possible so our mom can focus on her recovery. 

All we want is to see her return to celebrating life and enjoying the outdoors as soon as possible, even with these setbacks. We would be so grateful for your help in paying for medical expenses related to her hospital stays and procedures along with living costs throughout her recovery.
