Susan Jenkins

I’m fundraising to cover the costs of a flight to Thunder Bay to see my mother’s home and bring home her cat and her ashes. The cremation costs are covered, I’m just looking for help to get there to be present in her space and tie up the loose ends. I need to feel what it’s like to be in my mother's space for the last time.

I received a phone call at work today from a social worker at a hospital in Thunder Bay. She said that they had a patient there that had mentioned my name because I was a friend she knew from Facebook. She was told only to contact me in the event that she died because I might be willing to take her cat.

The patients name was Susan Jenkins. She passed away last night from pneumonia.

Susan was my mother.

The last time I saw my mother I was 12 years old. I’ve lived two more lifetimes since then.

My mother is a distant memory at this point; but I live daily with the lessons she taught me. I wish she had given me the opportunity to say goodbye, but I made peace with her absence long ago.

Mom, I hope wherever you are that you have found peace, and even though as a mother I cannot understand your choices, know that as your child, I forgive you.
